Amy Wright
Amy Wright is a Wine and Spirits Education Trust (WSET) diploma candidate, wine educator, and certified travel addict from Oakland, California. As a Bay Area native, wine was always around her in some capacity. However, her wine journey began in 2017 when she was hired at La Vara, a Michelin-starred tapas restaurant in Cobble Hill, Brooklyn. There, she developed a deep love for Spanish and Portuguese wines that inspired her to pursue WSET certification and explore the many facets of the wine world. Since her time at La Vara, Amy pivoted to the retail space, working both on the floor, as a buyer, and most recently, as Director of Sales at renowned wine retailer, The Urban Grape. She is an inaugural recipient of The Roots Fund Scholarship for wine studies and 2022 nominee for Wine Educator of the Year at Wine and Culture Fest. Her dream is to see a more inclusive industry where Black wine professionals can thrive and display their diverse palates and culinary traditions, and where Black wine drinkers can discover their own palates freely and confidently. She currently resides in beautiful Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn with her husband and travel partner, Sam, cat, Mitsu, and three turtle buddies.
